2009 Anchorages

  WHERE ARE WE?
  July 10-15, 2009 -- Five Finger Bay

We finally left Parry Sound and followed the Small-Craft Route south to Henrys Restaurant where we headed in to Five Finger Bay. (The marker in the NE corner of the map). The trip was uneventful but nerve racking. Following the route through narrow passages and around rocks was exciting to say the least. (To view our route, locate Parry Sound to the north and slightly east of Five Finger Bay, you have to move the map to find Parry Sound.) We basically headed south out of Parry Sound, east of Parry and Isabelle Islands, south to and then north of Sans Souci island (the location of Henrys -- we dinghied over from Five Finger Bay twice for food) and then headed north northeast to Five Finger Bay. One passage, Anker Pint (really), was barely wide enough for Toucan to get through. We LEFT via a different route.

Five Finger Bay is a beautiful anchorage in Massasauga Provincial Park. We spent several days exploring the area including a trip to Moon River Falls. (The marker in the SE corner of the map. You figure out how we got there), eating at Henrys (way too much Pickerel), fishing, and more. We even got lost on the way back from Moon River Falls (a 9 mile trip that took us 16 miles returning to Toucan) but we finally made it back and chalked it up as a learning experience.
