North Channel Trip 2004 |
Sunday, August 1, 2004 -- South Manitou Island to Charlevoix We left South Manitou still heading North (in heavy South winds) and decided to try for Charlevoix. Once again we had a fun downwind sail but this time anchoring was a challenge. Not only was the lake crowded but it was deep 40'. Then we noticed that every other boat had severely reduced scope which reduced swinging around the anchor in this very crowded, well protected little lake.
Monday, August 2, 2004 -- Charlevoix Lay day, we just hung out, dinghying around the lakes and walking around the town. We met a couple, anchored behind us, from Michigan who also had a 380, Folie a Deux. After comparing notes on the 380 we realized that we were both sailing to Beaver Island tomorrow and we decided to sail there together. Later that evening we heard a knock knock on the hull. It was a single-handed sailor (he was retuning from the Bahamas via the Erie Canal) who had just anchored ahead of us and thought he might be sitting on top of our anchor. He just wanted to let us know and if we had a problem raising our anchor feel free to wake him up. A fun friendly harbor. |
